Radio 4 Amateur Scientist

In December 2011 I reached the final ten of a BBC Radio 4 programme that aims to find the Amateur Scientist of the Year. I had submitted a proposal to scientifically explore the benefits of singing for health and wellbeing. (See the Forres Gazette article).
I came fifth in the final judging and thus by just one place missed to go through and work with scientists to develop this project. Obviously excruciating to get so very, very close but still another indicator as to how serious the wider world is taking the benefits of singing. I am hopeful that something might still come out of this. I have been really touched, encouraged and impressed by the support and response that I have had to all this, including from some very long lost friends!

I use music in many different settings to create community, to foster harmony, to bring people together, and above all I encourage people to use music as a tool of empowerment and self-discovery.
