Singing: The key to a long life

Brian Eno

“ I believe that singing is the key to long life, a good figure, a stable temperament, increased intelligence, new friends, super self-confidence, heightened sexual attractiveness, and a better sense of humor. ”

“ I believe in singing to such an extent that if I were asked to redesign the British educational system, I would start by insisting that group singing become a central part of the daily routine. ”

Singing on Eigg 2017

our 11th singing holiday

Saturday 20 May — Friday 26 May 2017
Glebe Barn Hostel, Isle of Eigg, Scotland
Fully catered 7-day singing workshop/holiday on a wonderful Hebridean Island

Back from the 10th "Singing on the Isle of Eigg" holiday, blissed out by a week of wall-to-wall sunshine; a lovely, lovely group of singers; some wonderful food as ever from our cooks, Kunie and her assistant Seiko; some grand walks (no mention of the skinny dipping in Loch nam Ban Móra please); fantastic views from the new sun room at the wonderful Glebe Barn; a splendid evening of singing at Norah's place (Earth Connections Centre which is the old Big House now put to a much better use as a Sustainability Centre); a glimpse of some of the newly discovered archive videos of Eigg (courtesy of Lucy Conway); a stunning afternoon trip to neighbouring Muck and of course, a great deal of fantastic singing, all finished off on our last evening by a wee ceilidh where we heard many songs, poems, tunes and more. Dates for next year already set (under pressure from people already wanting to book) as May 20th - 26th. Get in touch if you want to know more.

This week in May 2017 will be the 11th year of this singing holiday on the wonderful Hebridean Island of Eigg, one of the Small Isles; a week of singing, walking, laughter, merriment and, of course, delicious fully-catered food.

This week is open to singers of all levels, and I will suit the repertoire to the ability of the group. Teaching will be mostly by ear so you do not have to read music.

I use music in many different settings to create community, to foster harmony, to bring people together, and above all I encourage people to use music as a tool of empowerment and self-discovery.
