Singing: The key to a long life
“ I believe that singing is the key to long life, a good figure, a stable temperament, increased intelligence, new friends, super self-confidence, heightened sexual attractiveness, and a better sense of humor. ”
“ I believe in singing to such an extent that if I were asked to redesign the British educational system, I would start by insisting that group singing become a central part of the daily routine. ”

This week in May 2024 will be our 16th year of this singing holiday on the wonderful Hebridean Island of Eigg, one of the Small Isles; a week of singing, walking, laughter, merriment and, of course, delicious fully-catered vegetarian food.

After a few brief practice sessions a small group of us sang this song on the eve of the UK general election 2019 in the room we had been hiring for this purpose. On this night it had actually been laid out as a polling station in advance of proceedings the following day. It seemed a totally appropriate place for us to be singing this song. We only regret that it did not have the desired effect, not even locally. But it was enormous fun. With thanks to Stephen Taberner of the Spookymen's Chorale who created the original - with an admission that we have changed the lyric ever so slightly but not in any way to lessen the strength and intention of the song.
